These dogs search for traces most of us would never notice. The work is stop-start, hot, noisy and mentally expensive. A tired nose is often a tired body, so the food has to be dense in quality meat and easy to digest.
Handlers tell us the same story: a light stomach, a shiny coat, and a dog that still wants the next search after a long shift. That is not a job for a greasy, additive-heavy kibble.
Natural food will not train a detection dog. It simply stops the bowl from getting in the way. Plenty of water, rest between searches, and a recipe the gut already knows are the unglamorous part of the job.
